Workshop for Teachers K5-12

Wire-edge Bindings
Books with wire-edge bindings possess an understated elegance. In this class you will construct a four-panel accordion-fold book with pockets and pop-up inserts, bound with wire-edge hinges. The wires used to make this simple and strong binding can be completely hidden or exposed, and allow the pages to turn a full 360 degrees! This versatile binding style, developed by Daniel Kelm, is Michael’s all-time favorite, and can be used to make fantastic interactive book structures and sculptures. Michael will also demonstrate all steps necessary to complete a wire-edge tryptich structure incorporating a picture frame and pocket to house a tiny book.
